Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Host Organizing Committee has announced that only one hundred Ticket Packages are still available for the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
In making the announcement on Friday morning, MasterCard Memorial Cup Chairman Jeff Cristall announced that as of November 26th, a total of 3,529 Ticket Packages had been purchased, with over 90% of those being sold to current Brandon Wheat Kings' Season Ticket holders.
The Wheat Kings sold a franchise record 3,600 season tickets this season.
Because the Canadian Hockey League receives 1,450 Memorial Cup Ticket packages, the Local Committee is allowed to sell only 3,652 for the 11-day Championship, which runs from May 14-23rd in Brandon's Keystone Centre.
Fans interested in purchasing MasterCard Memorial Cup Ticket Packages are encouraged to contact the Wheat Kings' office at 726-3535 or by email at office@wheatkings.com
For the first time in history, the Wheat Kings have earned the right to play host to the MasterCard Memorial Cup. This will mark the first time that Manitoba has hosted the National Championship and it also comes during the province's 140th Anniversary Celebrations.
2010 will mark the Wheat Kings' fifth Memorial Cup appearance, having competed for the title in 1949, 1979, 1995 and 1996.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings hope to have 18-year old center Brayden Schenn in the lineup Friday night when they kick off a weekend home and home series with the visiting Swift Current Broncos. A first round draft choice of the Los Angeles Kings, Schenn made his National Hockey League debut Thursday night in Vancouver. Earlier in the day, the Kings recalled the 18-year old Saskatoon product to fill in on an Emergency basis as the NHL club had been battling a serious rash of injuries.
Tickets to Friday's game against the Broncos are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
Friday's game is a presentation of Manitoba Public Insurance.
