Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
(SIOUX FALLS, SD) âThe Sioux Falls Canaries announced Tuesday that they have signed RHP Grant Dorn. Joining the team on its 15-game roadtrip, Dorn already saw action in last night's ballgame against Joliet. He threw 1.2 innings in the victory, striking out 2 batters while giving up a run.
Dorn comes to Sioux Falls from Mid-Missouri of the Frontier League where he spent 2003 under the guidance of Manager Papo Divila. Dorn went 6-7 on the year, starting in 19 games. He compiled a 3.74 ERA in 127 innings, striking out 107 hitters.
Originally a 10th round draft pick of the Montreal Expos in the 1999 June Amateur Draft, Dorn spent his time in Single-A ball working as a reliever. During his time in the minor league with the Expos and Houston Astros (99-02), he built up a record of 10-14, including his time with Clinton in 2001, when he went 4-1.
In addition to a 90 mph fastball, Dorn also brings a winning attitude to the team. Playing for Astros-affiliate Lexington during the remainder of the 2001 season, he contributed to his team's championship season with a 2.05 ERA in 20 innings.
Dorn fills the roster slot vacated by the departure of LHP Peter Blake. Blake left the team due to pain in his throwing arm, an injury that has kept him out of baseball all season.
