Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
JOLIET, IL â Backed by 8 runs in the 4th inning and a stellar performance by reliever Eric White, the Sioux Falls Canaries easily took game 2 of the series, 9-3 Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field. Every batter in the Canaries lineup recorded a hit, as they out-hit the Jackhammers 17-9.
The Canaries sent 13 batters to the plate, recorded 10 hits, and scored eight runs in the top of the 4th inning to take an 8-to-0 lead. Glenn Davis drove in the first run with a single, and Carlos Pagan followed with an RBI double. With two outs, Warren Gaspar connected for a 2-RBI single, followed by another double by Billy Brown, knocking in 2 runs and knocking out Joliet starter Nathan Kent. Reliever Mike Ott couldn't help out much as he allowed a Clark Parker RBI single, his second of the inning. Juan Thomas added the final run of the inning with an RBI single of his own.
Canaries starter Jose Robles threw 11 pitches before he left due to injury. LHP Eric White replaced him and lasted 6.2 innings, by far his longest outing of the season. He allowed the Jackhammers only 2 runs during that span, striking out a season-high 6 batters. Newly acquired RHP Grant Dorn made his Canaries debut, closing out the game while striking out 2.
White improved to 2-0 on the year, while Nathan Kent fell to 2-5. Kent was charged with 7 runs, after giving up 9 hits and failing to close out the 4th inning.
Mickey Hernandez added the 9th and final run for the Birds when he singled home a run in the 5th.
The Canaries and Jackhammers will play the third game of this four-game series at 7:05 pm on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field. It will be a match up of All-Stars as RHP Wes Faust (4-6, 4.29) will face off against RHP Rich Hyde (10-4, 3.35).
