SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries are making sure a couple of talented local player don't leave South Dakota. The club announced today they have signed RHP/OF Kyle Winter and IF Sam Lind to contracts and released RHP Kyle Kingsley and OF Drew Muren on Saturday. Both players will be in uniform and available tonight when the Canaries host Fargo-Moorhead tonight at 6:35 PM.
Winter just completed his senior season at Augustana College in Sioux Falls where he earned All-NSIC First-Team honors as both a pitcher and an outfielder. As a pitcher, Winter made 11 starts and posted an 8-1 record and 3.80 ERA while tossing four complete games and one shutout. He struck out 61 batters in 64.0 innings and held opponents to a .230 average. As an outfielder, Winter hit a career-high .365 in 2014 and slugged 19 doubles, four homeruns, 43 RBI and had 19 multi-hit games.
Lind joins the Canaries after a stellar career at Cumberland University, which he completed by winning the 2014 NAIA World Series. Lind earned MVP honors after hitting .542 (13-24) with three doubles, two HR and 12 RBI in six games. For the season, Lind led Cumberland with a .404 batting average, 16 HR, 91 RBI and 11 SB. A native of Hartford, SD, Lind attended Roosevelt High School.
Kingsley appeared in six games out of the bullpen for the Canaries in 2014, posting an
0-1 record and 12.85 ERA in 7.0 innings. He allowed 17 hits, while striking out and walking three batters each.
Muren started 19 games in the outfield this season and was hitting .192 with one HR and 2 RBI.
