Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - Sioux Falls Canaries infielder/designated hitter Tim Pahuta has been named the Rawlings Batter of the Month for June, the American Association announced on Monday. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.

Pahuta, a veteran in his first season with the Canaries, had an exceptional month of June. In 26 games, he batted .396 (38-for-96) with six doubles, 11 home runs and 26 RBI. He reached base at a .454 clip, and his slugging percentage was a staggering .802. Three times Pahuta homered multiple times in one game, and he also collected the Canaries first grand slam of the season.

"Tim's been one of the hottest hitters in the league," Canaries manager Steve Shirley said. "He's worked really hard to overcome some injuries, so he really deserves this honor."

An eight-game hitting streak opened the month for Pahuta, and he hit safely in all but five games in June. On 11 occasions he had mutli-hit games. The former Washington Nationals prospect is currently tied for second in the league with 13 home runs, fifth in total bases (96), and second in slugging (.649).

Pahuta is the first Canaries player to earn a league award this season.

The Canaries begin a four-game series road series against the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, in Kansas City. The game will also be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
