St. Paul, MN - The Sioux Falls Canaries (24-15) failed to get on the scoreboard in a 7-0 loss to the St. Paul Saints (23-16). The series-opening loss trimmed the Canaries North Division to one game over the Saints and 2.5 games over the Wichita Wingnuts, who beat El Paso 8-3.

The Saints got on the board with a pair of two-out hits in the bottom of the second inning. Brent Krause doubled up the third base line to put a runner in scoring position for Ben Thomas. Thomas singled up the middle to plate Krause and give St. Paul an early 1-0 lead.

St. Paul pulled away in the sixth inning. Julius Thames and Tim Brown led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Marcel Longmire followed with a double to score Thames and send Brown to third. With the Saints ahead 2-0, Jason Colson singled to score Thames and Krause singled to score Longmire. After six innings the Saints led, 4-0.

An inning later, the Saints put the game out of reach with three runs on three hits. Scooter Jordan singled and Longmire walked to put two runners on base. Kevin Sullivan hit a ground rule double into the outfield warning track seats to bring home Jordan for a 5-0 lead. Jason Colson followed with a double to centerfield scoring Longmire and Sullivan for the 7-0 final.

Charlie Ruud (7-1) pitched six shutout innings to break the Saints career wins record formerly held by Canaries pitching coach Mike Meyer. Pat Mahomes (7-1) gave up four runs on 10 hits in six innings to suffer his first loss in six career starts against the Saints.
