ST. PAUL, MN (June 20, 2008) - Charlie Ruud's first victory came on August 24, 2005. On June 20, 2008 he became the all-time winningest pitcher in St. Paul Saints history as he earned victory number 27 with a 7-0 blanking of the first place Sioux Falls Canaries on Friday night at Midway Stadium and now trail the Canaries by one game with nine to go in the first half.

At the beginning of the night Ruud was tied with Mike Meyer, now the pitching coach for the Canaries and the interim manager on the evening. Ruud was his usual steady self. When he needed to make the pitches he did. When he needed a big strike out he got it and when he needed his patented double play ball he got that as well.

On the opposing side the Saints defeated Pat Mahomes, who was 7-0 on the season and 5-0 against the Saints in his career. The Saints offense got to Mahomes in the second when Brent Krause laced a two out double to left and scored on Ben Thomas' single to center to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

That's when Ruud took over. In the fourth Josh Patton led off with a double and moved to third on a one out single by Patrick Reilly. Ruud, however, got Paul Smyth to line into a double play to end the inning.

In the sixth, Ruud did it again. Patton singled to center and Ben Van Iderstine sacrificed him to second. Reilly followed with a single to center moving Patton to third. Once again he got Smyth on a 5-4-3 double play. Ruud walked off the field pumped up and was done for the night going 6.0 shutout innings allowing seven hits while walking one and striking out three.

The momentum from the double play carried over into the bottom of the inning. Julius Thames led off with a single to left-center. Tim Brown singled him to third. Marcel Longmire followed with an RBI double to right-center making it 2-0. With one out Jaosn Colson and Krause followed with back-to-back RBI singles to make it 4-0. Krause finished the night 3-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored. Mahomes left the game after six innings allowing four runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out eight.

The Saints tacked on three more in the seventh when Scooter Jordan led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. With two outs Longmire walked and Kevin Sullivan doubled home Jordan. Colson followed with a two-run double.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Mitch Wylie (0-0, 2.25) to the mound against Canaries RHP Ben Moore (3-3, 6.79). It is Nordic Night presented by Ingebretsen's Scandinavian Gifts. The game can be seen on KSTC-TV, Channel 45 and heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
