Canaries Even Series on Goldeyes

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-33) lost 7-4 to the Sioux Falls Canaries at Sioux Falls Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Canaries scored in four consecutive innings to build a 5-0 lead, beginning with two runs in the bottom of the second. David Bergin doubled down the left field line leading off and scored on a single to right from Jabari Henry. Jordan Dean singled Henry to third before getting thrown out at second by Josh Romanski. Mitch Glasser followed with a sacrifice fly to centre that plated Henry with the Canaries' second run.
In the bottom of the third, Bergin hit a two-out, RBI single that scored Chris Grayson. Jordan Smith added an RBI single in the fourth, while Glasser's two-out, RBI single in the fifth stretched the Canaries' lead to 5-0.
Winnipeg cut the deficit to 5-3 with three runs in the top of the sixth. Tyler Baker drew a leadoff walk and took second when Jordan Ebert reached on an error by Dean at third base. After Tucker Nathan's grounded into a fielder's choice, Matt McCann hit a sacrifice fly to deep centre that scored Baker. Reggie Abercrombie followed with a long, two-run home run down the left field line.
The Canaries re-extended the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run, bases loaded single by Bergin.
Sioux Falls led 7-3 into the ninth when Grant Heyman crushed a one-out, solo homer to right-centre. Canaries' reliever Kyle Schepel came back to retire the next two batters to end the game.
Former Major League right-hander Jake Esch (5-4) earned the win for Sioux Falls (23-33), allowing three unearned runs on seven hits in seven innings. Esch walked one and struck out four.
Tyler Herron (4-7) took the loss for the Goldeyes, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits in five-plus innings. Herron walked two and struck out seven.
Pete Perez pitched two scoreless innings of relief. Abercrombie finished with three hits, and is now just eight hits back of David Espinosa's American Association career record of 801. Nathans had an eight-game hitting streak come to an end.
