Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD -- The Sioux Falls Canaries (6-8) were down 9-1 to the Winnipeg Goldeyes (10-4) heading into the bottom half of the fifth inning, and made the charge back in the seventh to take the lead 10-9. That wasn't enough as the Birds fell to the Goldeyes 11-10.
Action started for the Goldeyes in the second. Wes Darvill, who finished the game 5-for-5, hit a home run to put Winnipeg up 1-0. Then in the third, four runs scored on a couple of singles and a home run by Kevin LaChance.
They didn't stop scoring -- in the fourth, four more runs scored on two more singles, a double by Willy Garcia and an error.
Something sparked a fire under the Canaries in the sixth. Winnipeg starting pitcher Parker French cruised into the sixth, but Adrian Nieto cracked a flare to right extending his on-base streak to 14. Clint Coulter hit a double, Kevin Taylor was hit by a pitch and the Birds got a rally going.
The Canaries plated six runs in the sixth, and found themselves up 10-9 after Mike Hart ripped a two-run single in the seventh.
However, the Canaries, after fighting all the way back, couldn't finish the job. Three ninth-inning hits by the middle of the Goldeyes lineup and a sac fly allowed Winnipeg to push the winning run across the plate.
