
Canadiens send Traverse to Bulldogs

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the club has assigned defenceman Patrick Traverse to the Hamilton Bulldogs. The 'Dogs also announced the signing of defenceman Danny Groulx to an American Hockey League contract.
Traverse, 32, registered 24 points (3-21-24) and 16 penalty minutes in 40 games with the AHL's Iowa Stars last season. The native of Montreal, Quebec has appeared in 421 career AHL games, posting 144 points (37-107-144) and 224 penalty minutes. In 279 career NHL games, the 6-foot-4, 207-pound defenceman has recorded 65 points (14-51-65) and 113 penalty minutes.
Groulx, a 25 year-old native of LaSalle, Quebec, appeared in 51 games with the Kassel Huskies of the German Elite League last season, recording 13 points (2-11-13) and 93 penalty minutes.
The club also announced that forwards Jimmy Bonneau and Cory Urquhart have been reassigned to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
There are now 27 players (15 forwards, nine defencemen and three goaltenders) remaining on the 'Dogs roster.
In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.
The Hamilton Bulldogs will open the 2006-2007 season on Friday, October 6th versus their North Division rival, the Manitoba Moose.
