Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Memorial Stadium - Boise, ID) - The thin air and high altitude of Memorial Stadium in Boise left a pair of Canadians pitchers scratching their heads as the Boise Hawks hit their way to a convincing 5-1 victory to open a crucial five-game series in Boise on Tuesday.
The Canadians opened up the scoring in the top of the 3rd inning when RF Nick Baligod grounded out scoring C Pierce Rankin to help Vancouver to an early 1-0 lead.
The Hawks would score five unanswered runs with the long ball playing a key role on Tuesday as DH Paul Hoilman hit his league-leading 16th home run of the summer off of Canadians starter RHP Blake McFarland and Boise's RF Reggie Golden hit a two-run home run off of Vancouver reliever LHP Shane Davis in the bottom of the 7th inning to help the Hawks open up this final series of the summer with a victory.
With the loss, Vancouver falls to 38-34 on the summer, and now lead Everett by just 2 1/2 games heading into Wednesday game at Boise. The Canadians need the Eugene Emeralds to win the Northwest League's West Division and also have a better record then both Everett and Salem-Keizer overall to advance to the 2011 Scotiabank Playoffs that would start in Vancouver on Monday, September 5th at 1:05pm.
