Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, Idaho - Four pitchers combined to hold Vancouver to just four hits, while Paul Hoilman and Reggie Golden clubbed home runs, as the Boise Hawks opened their first homestand with a 5-1 victory over the Canadians, before 2,684 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Relievers Dustin Fitzgerald, Andrew McKirahan, and Bryce Shafer limited the Canadians to just one hit in six innings of relief - allowing just one runner to reach scoring position.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Hoilman hit a line-drive solo homer to right, tying the Hawks franchise record with his 16th long ball of the summer. Boise would take the lead in the sixth, as Rafael Lopez lined a one-out single, scoring on a Ryan Cuneo double, with Golden lining a two-out RBI double to make it 3-1. The Cubs' second-round pick in last year's draft lined a homer to left in the eighth, to close out the scoring.
Fitzgerald got the win for the Hawks, tossing three hitless innings of relief, while McKirahan retired all six men he faced, striking out three. Hoilman, Lopez, Golden, and Zeke DeVoss each had two hits for the Hawks.
Kevin Patterson had two of the C's four hits in the loss.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow night at 6:45 p.m., with Jose Rosario meeting Zach Breault.
