Omaha Beef News Release

The 2009 season opened on a victorious note, not only for the Beef but for the Omaha community as well. During last Friday's season opener against the Wichita Wild, Beef fans helped collect canned goods for the second annual "Can Opener." This event is in conjunction with the Open Door Mission. A total of 1,731 pounds of canned goods were collected throughout the evening.

"The "Can Opener" was a huge success. We are extremely happy that we were able to raise more food this year," said Team President, Dakota Crow. "This was for a truly great cause. Candace's crew does amazing work and we are happy to help them in any way possible."

Founded in 1954, it is the mission statement of the Open Door Mission to provide basic needs and life-changing programs for the homeless and needy. Overall, their vision is to provide long-term solutions that break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

"Open Door Mission provides more than 1,700 hot, nutritious meals each day to hungry and homeless men, women, and children in the Heartland," said President and CEO, Candace Gregory. "Open Door Mission is grateful to Omaha Beef and their fans for making an outstanding contribution in the Can Opener Food Drive."

The Omaha Beef would like to thank NRG media for their assistance in promoting this event. The scope of this event would not have been possible without them.
