
Camden Drops Surf

CAMDEN, N.J. (June 30, 2003) - The Camden Riversharks defeated the Atlantic City Surf 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at Campbell''s Field. The Riversharks blistered Surf pitching with 13 hits, led by shortstop Jesus Azuaje and third baseman Lipso Nava with three hits apiece.
The Surf took an early 1-0 lead after a home run by Juan Thomas in the top of the second inning. The Riversharks answered with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the second. Left fielder Brad Strauss put the Riversharks ahead for good with a two-out single to left field to score catcher Travis Anderson.
Camden went on two score four runs in the third inning and added one in the fifth and the sixth to put the game away.
Thomas hit another solo homer in the sixth.
Ben Simon secured his fourth straight victory for the Riversharks as he pitched a complete-game seven hitter.
Maximo Nunez suffered the loss for Atlantic City, allowing six runs in three innings.
The Surf and the Riversharks continue their series today at 6:35 p.m. at Campbell''s Field.
