Bears Sign Catcher Tim DeCinces

NEWARK, NJ, June 30-The Newark Bears today announced the signing of catcher Tim DeCinces, who will be in uniform for this evening's game against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

The 29 year-old DeCinces, who is the son of former Major League third-baseman Doug DeCinces, has played in the Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics and Cleveland Indians organizations. This year he played in three games at triple-A Buffalo in the Indians chain and was slowed by a hamstring injury.

Last season DeCinces played in 26 games at double-A Midland in the A's organization and batted .280 with 3 home runs, 8 doubles and 20 runs-batted-in. He drove in a career-high 70 runs playing for single-A Delmarva in 1997; and in 1998 he batted .267 with 16 home runs, 25 doubles and 64 RBI while playing for single-A Frederick.
