
NEL Honors Charles, Alexander

North Shore catcher Frank Charles and Québec left-hander Jordy Alexander won the Daktronics Northeast League Players of the Week on Monday for the period ending Sunday, June 29.
Charles, 34, went 10-for-26 (.385) with a .731 slugging percentage and .469 on-base percentage during the week. He scored twice. He registered four doubles, one triple, one homer and six RBIs from June 23-29.
Charles played four games (batting 3-for-7) with the Houston Astros in 2000. He played parts of seven seasons (including 2003 with Pawtucket) in Triple-A and started his career in Single-A Everett with the San Francisco Giants in 1991.

Alexander threw eight shutout innings at Bangor on June 27, allowing three this and no walks while fanning 13 batters. Despite the stellar outing he did not pick up his first win of the season because the game was tied when he left and Bangor won the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Alexander has played since 1996 when he started his professional career with Tri-City of the independent Western League. He has also played in the Kansas City Royals organization and with the independent Northern League.
