Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs came up with some late-inning magic to beat Sioux Falls on Saturday, winning 5-3 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 38-29 on the season, 9-10 in the second half.
Sioux Falls had scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead, but Lincoln bounced back right away. Pat Trettel led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run off of Pheasants starter Ryan Rodriguez (7-4) to tie the game at three. In the bottom of the eighth, Lincoln put a runner on with one out for Juan Camacho, who hit the first pitch he saw deep into the Miller Lite Home Run Terrace for a game-winning two-run homer. Brendon Smith (2-0) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief for the win, and Chris Thompson pitched around two walks in the ninth for his league-leading 18th save.
Saltdogs starter Nick Tyson pitched well in his first start at Haymarket Park, holding Sioux Falls scoreless through the first five innings. Lincoln got on the board first in the fourth inning, getting an RBI single from Camacho and a run-scoring double from Roberto Alvarez. Sioux Falls finally got to Tyson in the sixth, tying the game at two with a pair of runs, before briefly taking the lead in the top of the seventh.
Camacho ended up 2-for-4 with his eighth home run and three RBI. Juan Richardson had the only other multi-hit night for Lincoln, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The two teams play the rubber match of their three-game home series Sunday night at 6:05pm. Right-hander Chris Cullen will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
