Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - After struggling through the first four innings against Grand Prairie AirHogs starter Ryne Tacker on Saturday night , the Shreveport-Bossier Captains offense figured things out in the final five frames, scoring in each inning to get the Captains an 8-2 win, their fourth straight victory, coming in front of 1,807 fans at Fair Grounds Field.
The victory was the second of the week for lefty Ryan DiPietro (7-1), who followed up his complete game against Pensacola on Monday with a seven-inning, two-run, one-walk, seven-strikeout performance against the AirHogs (25-41, 1-17 2nd half). DiPietro was not dominant on Saturday, allowing at least one baserunner in all of his innings, but he worked out of trouble in five of the seven frames.
The biggest jam he escaped was in the second, when he got a short flyout and a foul-out with runners at first and third and one out in the second. Grand Prairie got runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-0 lead though, as Tacker (4-5) avoided a jam in the first and cruised through the next three innings.
But Brian Peterson led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, and after a one-out walk, Jovanny Rosario had the third of his four hits to put the Captains (40-26, 11-8) on the board. After Rosario stole second, Uriak Marquez hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Christopher Garcia started the sixth with a double, and scored the eventual winning run on a one-out single by Andres Rodriguez.
Shreveport-Bossier got three insurance runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth off a pair of AirHogs relievers, capped off by Marquez's fifth home run of the year, a two-run shot to right.
Justin Young pitched the final two innings for the Captains, facing the minimum six batters and getting the final out on a double play.
