LINCOLN, Neb. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants snapped a five-game winning streak with a 5-3 loss to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Saturday night. The Saltdogs, powered by two home runs in the game, evened the three-game series at one apiece. The Pheasants' overall record fell to 47-20. They remain in first place with a 15-4 record in the second half.
Sioux responded to two fourth-inning Lincoln runs with two of their own in the sixth. Beau Torbert singled home Reggie Abercrombie and Hunter Jobes knocked in Torbert on a groundout. Reggie Abercrombie gave the Pheasants a brief 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh by beating out an infield single hit deep in the hole at short, allowing Eddy Rodriguez to score. But Pat Trettel evened the game for Lincoln in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run.
Juan Camacho then hit a two-run home run to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was the difference in the game. Camacho was 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead all Saltdogs hitters.
Pheasants starter Ryan Rodriguez (7-4) threw all eight innings in the loss, allowing eight hits and two walks. He struck out four. Lincoln reliever Brendon Smith (2-0) tossed a perfect 1 1/3 innings in relief of starter Nick Tyson. In his second start for Lincoln, Tyson allowed all three Sioux Falls runs.
Lincoln closer Chris Thompson walked two batters in the ninth to allow the go-ahead run to come to the plate. But Tim Hutting flew out to left and Abercrombie popped out to first to end the game. Thompson earned his league-best 18th save of the season.
Eddy Rodriguez and Brandon Sing were the only two Pheasants with multiple hit performances. They each collected two hits.
Sioux Falls goes for a series win in the rubber game at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Lincoln, Neb. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
