Shreveport-Bossier 4, Grand Prairie 2
Shreveport-Bossier starter Osvaldo Rodriguez improved to 10-1 by allowing just two runs and three hits over seven innings, and the Captains slipped by the struggling AirHogs 4-2. Rodriguez won his second straight decision and struck out seven hitters before handing it over to two relievers, including closer Hector Carrasco, who earned his 12th save. Carrying the load offensively for the Captains was DH Palmer Karr Jr. who launched his 10th home run in the fourth inning and finished with three hits. Grand Prairie, which has dropped 17 of 18 to begin the second half, got a two-run homer by 1B Jason Stokes to account for its only offense.
Wichita 6, St. Paul 2
Wichita hurler Nick Singleton allowed just one run in 6.1 innings, and the top of the Wingnuts' lineup got the job done in a 6-2 win over St. Paul. Singleton picked up his seventh win and lowered his league-leading ERA to 2.29 by allowing just five hits and striking out six. Two relievers allowed just one unearned runs in the final 2.2 innings. Offensively, leadoff man SS Joe Spiers finished a perfect 4-for-4 and knocked in two, and CF Ryan Patterson and 3B Mike Bell each also drove in a pair.
Sioux Falls 5, Lincoln 4
Lincoln LF Argelis Nunez cranked two home runs and knocked in four runs, but Sioux Falls scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth to clip the Saltdogs 5-4. Nunez hit a solo shot in the second and a three-run bomb in the sixth to help Lincoln build a 4-3 lead, but the Pheasants tied the game in the top of the seventh, and took the lead two innings later when RF Gus Milner scored on a wild pitch. In the win, Sioux Falls also got a three-run homer from LF Hunter Jobes, and solid relief appearances by Andrew Pluta, who picked up the win, and Aaron Cotter, who earned his 17th save.
Fort Worth 6, Sioux City 3
Fort Worth 1B John Allen smashed a three-run homer and led a consistent offensive attack to a 6-3 win over Sioux City. The Cats managed just seven hits in the game but did enough to support a strong pitching performance. Fort Worth starter Dwayne Pollok allowed just two earned runs over seven innings to pick up his fifth win. He scattered nine hits and struck out nine hitters before handing the game over to two relievers, including closer Dustin Cameron, who notched his 14th save of the season.
El Paso 7, Pensacola 6
El Paso got multi-hit performances from six different players and edged Pensacola 7-6. The Diablos pounded 16 hits in the game, and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first two innings, thanks in part to a two-run double by 2B Hector Bernal. The offense continued to add runs, including a seventh inning solo homer by C Benji Johnson. Pensacola also managed double-digt hits, but never quite caught up with the Diablos, who relied on a strong start from D.J. Mattox. Mattox allowed just one earned run in six innings to pick up the win, and reliever David Whigham contributed a two-inning save.
