Calgary, AB - The Brandon Wheat Kings jumped out to a 4-0 second period lead en route to a 5-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Ty Lewis led the Wheat Kings attack with a goal and two assists while Baron Thompson scored twice. Gunnar Wegleitner and Kade Jensen rounded out the scoring for the visitors who extended their winning streak to three games.

Matteo Gennaro tallied a pair of goals for the Hitmen to give the 20-year-old centre a team-leading five goals in six games to start the young season. Jakob Stukel tallied the other Calgary marker.

Wheat Kings goaltender Logan Thompson also played a strong part in the outcome. He made 37 saves in a game that saw Calgary outshoot Brandon 40-25.

Fans were encouraged to bring toques, scarves or gloves and toss them on the ice during the first intermission to help the homeless and underprivileged. They responded with huge hearts, donating 1,035 winter items that will be handed over to Project Warmth Society of Alberta.

The Hitmen will now hit the road for a three-game B.C. Division road trip which opens Tuesday in Prince George. The trip will also make stops in Kamloops on Wednesday and Kelowna on Friday.

Calgary returns to the Scotiabank Saddledome one week from today on Sunday, Oct. 15, to welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a 4:00 p.m. start. It will mark the second Sunday Funday, presented by Pocky, of the season. There will be face painters, concourse activities, lots of giveaways and a post-game family skate that is FREE with your game ticket. Sunday Funday contests also feature a specially priced $8.99 ticket (plus applicable fees) for kids 12 and under.
