JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Brooklyn scored twice in the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and top the BlueClaws 6-4 on Thursday at ShoreTown Ballpark, spoiling a strong outing from Jean Cabrera who threw six scoreless innings for Jersey Shore.
The BlueClaws (7-5) saw their two-game win streak snapped as Brooklyn (5-7) got their first win in the third game of the series.
Brooklyn re-claimed the lead in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Wilfredo Lara off Gunner Mayer to score Omar De Los Santos with the go-ahead run. Ryan Clifford added an RBI single off Andrew Walling for a 6-4 Cyclones lead.
Jersey Shore had come from three-down to tie the game in the seventh. They got runs on a bases loaded walk to Emaarion Boyd and a Justin Crawford hit batsman. Then, Felix Reyes hit an infield fly popout to second base, but Wilfredo Lara dropped the ball in shallow center, allowing the tying run to score.
This came after Brooklyn scored four times without a hit in the top of the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. The Cyclones scored on two bases loaded walks, a wild pitch, and a hit batsman to take the lead in the seventh. Three runs were charged to Danny Wilkinson, all unearned, and the fourth to Daniel Harper.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Erick Brito. He drove in Zach Arnold who had tripled to start the inning.
Brooklyn threatened in the fifth inning, loading the bases with two outs. But Christian Pregent was thrown out at the plate by Emaarion Boyd on a base hit to left by Stanley Consuegra.
Zach Arnold had two hits for the BlueClaws in defeat and has seven hits in his last three games.
The teams continue their series on Friday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Eiberson Castellano starts for Jersey Shore.
