Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington Blue Rocks bounced back from their first home loss of the season, defeating the Greenville Drive 6-4 on Thursday, April 18.
The Drive started off the scoring early in the top of the first inning, plating two runs on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch after Blue Rocks starter Bryan Caceres walked two and hit a batter.
The Blue Rocks answered in the third, as a Branden Boissiere Sac Fly scored Daylen Lile to bring the Drive lead down to 2-1.
Then in the fourth, Wilmington continued to force the issue. Two catcher's interference calls and three hits, including Kevin Made's 2-RBI single brought home four runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Greenville didn't budge, however, scoring two more runs on three straight hits off Caceres and forcing him out of the game. The back-and-forth set the game at 5-4 Wilmington heading into the sixth.
The relief pitching for the Blue Rocks continued to show their prowess tonight, where Chance Huff, Marquis Grissom, and Todd Peterson combined for five scoreless innings. The group only allowed one hit, shutting the door on a possible comeback for the Drive.
The Blue Rocks scored another run in the seventh inning, when an Ivan Murzi walk brought home T.J White.
Drive catcher Drew Ehrhard came in in relief in the eighth inning, and his switch-up of slow pitching got to Wilmington, as he entered the game with one out and the bases loaded and turned a double play on leadoff hitter Viandel Pena. He stayed in to finish the game and didn't allow the Blue Rocks to get another run.
