Cabrera sent to Triple-A Columbus

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that OF Melky Cabrera has been transferred from Trenton to Columbus (AAA) of the International League. OF Matt Carson has been transferred from Tampa (A) of the Florida State League to fill his roster spot.

Cabrera, who was named last week to play in the "Future's Game" during the Major League All-Star game festivities in Detroit, MI on July 10th, has a .267 BA with 9 HR and 44 RBI in 75 G for Trenton during the 2005 season.

Cabrera is the 10th Thunder representative (9th Player) to participate in this game. He will play for the World team. Every Trenton player to appear in the "Futures Game" has played for the World team. The Thunder centerfielder is in his 4th professional season since being signed as a non-drafted free agent (11/13/01) by the Yankees. Cabrera was also a candidate for the Eastern League All-Star game in Portland, ME next month. Cabrera, 20, holds a share of the longest hitting streak for the Thunder this season- nine games. He has also produced 16 of his 44 RBI this season without benefit of a base hit.

Carson, who will turn 24 years old on Friday, has a .243 BA with 8 HR and 33 RBI in 73 G for the Tampa Yankees and had a 13-game hitting streak earlier this season. He was a 5th round selection in the 2002 June Draft from Brigham Young University. Carson split the 2004 season between Battle Creek and Tampa, batting .304, 12 HR, 58 RBI for Battle Creek in 95 G and .171, 3 HR, 17 RBI in 37 G for Tampa.

He was a Freshman All-America at B.Y.U. and helped the Cougars to the 2001 NCAA Tournament with a .335 BA, 18 HR, 70 RBI.

The Thunder begins a three-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats tonight at Waterfront Park. Game time is 7:05 PM.
