New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
(TRENTON, NJ)
Right hander Ramon Ramirez scattered six hits and allowed just one run in beating the Fisher Cats for the second time in eleven days as the Trenton Thunder topped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-1 Tuesday night.
Ramirez (4-4), who worked into the seventh inning, allowed only an RBI single to Fisher Cat right fielder Ron Davenport before leaving. Reliever Matt Smith retired all eight batters he faced in picking up his second save.
Trenton (43-35), in first place in the Northern Division, gave Ramirez a 4-0 lead to work with.
The Thunder scored two against New Hampshire (39-37) starter Zach Jackson in the fourth inning. First baseman Shelley Duncan doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on third baseman Eric Duncan's RBI infield single. Left fielder Eric Crozier and designated hitter Yobal Duenas (2-for-2, RBI) followed with singles to make it 2-0.
Trenton added two more in the sixth inning on an RBI single by shortstop Ramiro Pena (2-for-4, 2 RBI) with the bases loaded off reliever Jordan DeJong.
The Thunder finished off the scoring with an RBI single by catcher Omir Santos in the seventh and a J-T Stotts bases loaded sacrifice fly in the eighth off DeJong. The Fisher Cats are now 1-3 on the roadtrip, having scored only six runs in the four games. New Hampshire gets another shot at Trenton Wednesday night at 7:05pm with right-hander Dustin McGowan (0-0, 0.00) making his first start of the year for the Fisher Cats. Trenton will throw right hander Jeff Karstens (7-6, 3.53). The series and roadtrip concludes Thursday night. New Hampshire returns home this weekend to play the Altoona Curve.
