Wichita Wind Surge News Release
LITTLE ROCK, AR- Led by Trey Cabbage at the plate and Jordan Balazovic on the mound, the Wind Surge started their 12 game road trip with a 4-1 victory over the Arkansas Travelers. Wichita was one out away from their seventh shutout of the season, but still walk away with a series opening win against the Travelers.
The Wind Surge struck first in their first plate appearances. Ernie De La Trinidad reached first base off an Arkansas error. The next batter, Roy Morales, hit a deep fly ball to center field that bounced off the wall and allowed De La Trinidad to slide in safely at home to put the Surge up first.
Wichita added another run in the top of the third. With two on, Cabbage missed a three-run home run by a couple feet. Instead, the ball bounced once in right center field before hopping over the short porch for a book-rule double and scoring BJ Boyd from second for a 2-0 Wichita advantage.
Trey Cabbage added two more to the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning. Cabbage, who nearly missed a home run earlier in the game, did not miss this time as he smoked a two-run shot 461 feet over right field. His fourth long ball of the season put Wichita ahead 4-0 late in the game.
Arkansas scored one on a Bobby Honeyman RBI single to break up the shutout, but the Surge remained on top when the final out was recorded.
Roy Morales also had a great night at the plate with a 3-5 performance and the first RBI of the game.
Jordan Balazovic backed up his pitcher of the week award with another strong performance on the mound tonight. Balazovic threw another scoreless outing in seven innings of work, allowing just four hits and struck out six in his ninth start. Zach Neff and Jordan Gore closed out the final two innings giving up just one run on two hits and striking out two combined.
NOTES: Balazovic pushed his streak of scoreless innings pitched to 25.2 straight innings. The Minnesota Twins signed free agent pitcher Chris Nunn and assigned him to the Wind Surge 7-day development roster. Roy Morales added three hits and has a hit in seven consecutive and 11 of his last 12 games. The Surge lead Arkansas and NW Arkansas by 2 ý games for the division lead.
