Two Strong Arms & "Babe Ruth" ... 'Hounds Fall, 8-1
July 20, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release
Sunday at Corpus Christi, Scott Schreiber hit a walk-off, grand slam home run to cap a seven-run rally and give the Hooks a 9-5 win over San Antonio. Two at-bats later, he did it again.
Schreiber's second slam in three trips to the plate (one in Corpus Christi and one at Rocky Town) broke Tuesday night's game wide open as the Hooks won the opener of a six-game series, 8-1, at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
Schreiber added a solo home run in the eighth inning to finish the night 3-for-4, with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI.
While overshadowed by Schreiber's "Babe Ruth impersonation," Corpus Christi pitching was outstanding. Starter Joe Record was nearly perfect, allowing just one base runner (no walks and five strikeouts) over five innings for the win. Hunter Brown entered the game in the sixth and went the rest of the way for the save, allowing one run on four hits.
RockHounds starter Brady Feigl nearly matched Record, giving up just one run one on three hits and three walks (while striking out five) in five innings and, when he left the game, the score was 1-0.
Corpus Christi loaded the bases with no outs against reliever Montana DuRapau in the sixth and Scott Manea drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run. Schreiber then sent a 1-2 pitch over the high wall in left field (his second "slam" in three at-bats) as the Hooks took command, 6-0. Schreiber finished the scoring for Corpus Christi with a short porch home run into the right field bullpen in the eighth inning, his second home run of the game, and his third in five at-bats.
Kibbles & Bits
Max Schuemann had two of the RockHounds' five hits - - a double in the second (the only hit allowed by Joe Record) and a solo home run (his first at the Double-A level) in the ninth.
Houston Astros' utility man Aledmys Diaz has joined the Hooks on a Major League rehab assignment. Diaz, who fractured his left hand when he was hit by a pitch on June 5, went 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout (Brady Feigl) as Corpus Christi's designated hitter and leadoff batter.
