By the Numbers: FC Cincinnati at Real Salt Lake
September 15, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
FC Cincinnati News Release
FC Cincinnati head west to the Beehive State to take on Real Salt Lake. Kickoff from America First Field in Sandy, Utah is set for Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. MT, and the game will be televised on WSTR 64, streamed regionally on fccincinnati.com/stream, out of market on ESPN+, on radio on ESPN 1530 while an audio stream will be available via the iHeartRadio app.
Let's break down this matchup, by the numbers.
3
FC Cincinnati meet Real Salt Lake for the second time ever, and the Orange and Blue will head to Utah to meet RSL for the first time. Only three players on FC Cincinnati's current roster saw action in the first meeting back in April 2019: Nick Hagglund, Allan Cruz and Alvas Powell.
Cruz was unable to score one of his team-high seven goals of that inaugural season, as FCC fell to RSL on a rainy day at Nippert Stadium, 3-0.
4
There were plenty of performances and statistics from FC Cincinnati's 6-0 dismantling of the San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday to thrill Head Coach Pat Noonan and his coaching staff, including Brenner's four goal contributions, the team's sixth clean sheet of the season, and of course the club's record 10th win of the year.
Here's a stat that flew under the radar: FC Cincinnati scored four left-footed goals against the Quakes, which was the most such goals scored by one team in an MLS game since 2020. To add even more intrigue, it was the most left-footed goals scored by a single team since September 10, 2020, exactly two years prior to Saturday's matchup at TQL Stadium, when the Seattle Sounders scored five left-footed goals against ... the San Jose Earthquakes.
As a team, Real Salt Lake have scored seven left-footed goals this season, tied for fourth-fewest in MLS.
4/5
Four again, as Real Salt Lake represent one of four clubs that FC Cincinnati have never played on their home turf, the others being LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Add in Nashville SC's GEODIS Park as the five current MLS home venues where FC Cincinnati has never taken the field.
12
Real Salt Lake have allowed 12 goals at America First Field all season, the second-fewest in MLS behind the Philadelphia Union's nine allowed home goals.
RSL, led by goalkeeper Zac MacMath, have recorded eight clean sheets at home this season, tied with Chicago Fire FC for the most in MLS.
150
Real Salt Lake have utilized home field advantage since beginning play in 2005. All-time in Utah, the Claret and Cobalt have a 150-58-79 record when playing at home. On August 31 in a 3-0 win over Minnesota United FC, RSL became the 11th team in MLS history to reach 150 wins at home.
This year, RSL are 8-2-5 on their home field. Their .700 home winning percentage is tied for the fourth-best in MLS this season.
