Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 20th season in the American Hockey League, today announced that the Boston Bruins have assigned defenseman Ryan Button to the Providence Bruins from the Reading Royals of the ECHL.
Button, 20, was assigned to Reading on October 27 and went scoreless in three games for the Royals. A native of Edmonton, AB, Button joined the P-Bruins for seven games at the end of last season and tallied on assist. Boston's third round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the rookie blue liner spent four years in the Western Hockey League, including three with the Prince Albert Raiders before a mid-season trade brought him to the Seattle Thunderbirds last season. In 2008-09 with Prince Albert, Button scored a career-high 32 assists and 37 points in 70 regular season games.
Last season, the Royals clinched first place in the Atlantic Division with a 44-23-2-3 record. The club advanced to the second round of the playoffs, before falling to the Kalamazoo Wings in four games.
The Providence Bruins are back in action with a full schedule next weekend. The P-Bruins open the weekend on Friday for the first of a home-and-home series with the Manchester Monarchs. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. for "T-Shirt Night," with t-shirts free to the first 2,000 fans presented by Turfer Athletic. For tickets to the first of the P-Bruins 5 Dollar Off Fridays click here. The club wraps up the series in Manchester on Saturday before returning to The Dunk on Sunday for a 4:05 p.m. tilt with the Norfolk Admirals for "Stadium Cup Night," which are free to the first 1,000 fans and presented by Cool Air Creations and RIDOT.
