Worcester Gets Capped by St. John's 6-3

WORCESTER, MA - Matt Irwin scored his AHL leading 4th goal from the blue line for Worcester but the Sharks sunk for the first time in regulation, 6-3, to the visiting St. John's IceCaps to kick off the month of November at the DCU Center on Tuesday night.

Mike Connolly extended his point streak to six games with as assist (5-6-11) and Harri Sateri made28 saves for Worcester as the Sharks fell behind 3-0 in the opening 12 minutes and were never able to recover.

St. John's came flying out of the gate aided by a four minute power play in the opening minute and took a 3-0 lead. Jason King (5th) deflected a shot/pass from Marco Rosa past Harri Sateri at 2:38. Aaron Gagnon (2nd) made it 2-0 at 4:21 with another power play strike finishing off a rebound chance. Kevin Clark (2nd) sent a quick shot from the right circle on a 2-on-2 rush to give the IceCaps a 3-0 lead. Cam MacIntyre (2nd) got the Sharks on the board after a terrific rush by Sena Acolatse down the left wing at 17:39. MacIntyre rushed towards the front of the net and poked the puck past Edward Pasquale to cut the deficit to two goals. The Sharks trailed 3-1 after the first period as both teams fired 10 shots on goal.

Worcester struck early in the 2nd period as Sena Acolatse (1st) slapped a bullet past Pasquale from on top of the left circle for his first professional goal at 1:15 of the 2nd period to get the Sharks within a goal. But the IceCaps scored the next two goals, with Kevin Clark (3rd) sneaking a rebound past Sateri at 3:02 and Patrice Cormier (1st) at 17:26 giving St. John's a 5-2 lead through 40 minutes of play.

Matt Irwin (4th) extended his point streak to four games with a power play tally strike with a rocket from the left circle at 3:43 to cut the IceCaps lead to 5-3. Riley Holzapfel (5th) sealed the deal for the IceCaps with an empty net goal at 18:15 as the Sharks fell for the first time in regulation by the count of 6-3.

The Sharks record falls to 4-1-0-2 with 10 points and to 2-1-0-1 at the DCU Center.
