Brockton, Mass. - 1B Joe Burke went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, and was a triple short of the cycle, as the Atlantic City Surf defeated the Brockton Rox, 9-2, in the rubber game of a three-game set at Campanelli Stadium on Sunday evening.

Atlantic City scored a run in the first on DH Clyde Williams' sacrifice fly, plating SS Anthony Granato, before Brockton tied the game in the second on RF Nick Vardaro's RBI fielder's choice.

The Surf took the lead for good in the third, when a pair of Rox errors led to Granato and Burke scoring unearned runs, making it a 3-1 game. Atlantic City tacked on another pair in the fourth via an RBI double from C William Plaza and an RBI single by CF Lucas Taylor.

Brockton scored its final run of the evening in its half of the fourth, on DH Jud Thigpen's home run to lead off the inning. It was all Surf the rest of the way, though, as Atlantic City scored a run in the fifth on RF Josh Burrus' RBI single to increase their lead to 6-2, and three more on back-to-back seventh-inning home runs: a two-run blast by Granato, and a solo shot from Burke.

Rory Shortell (6-2) put together another solid outing for the Surf, allowing two runs on nine hits in eight innings of work, striking out seven, to earn the victory. Rolando Viera (2-8) was tagged with the loss for Brockton, giving up six earned runs in six and one-third innings pitched. For the second time in less than a week, Atlantic City was involved in a game in which a position player pitched. Vardaro threw the ninth inning for the Rox, allowing a hit and a walk, but not yielding any runs.

While Burke led the Surf attack, Granato was also 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Williams 2-for-3 as well. Thigpen and SS Dominic Ramos both had a pair of hits for Brockton.

Atlantic City, which improves its record to 19-7 in its last 26 games, looks to continue the hot streak in Worcester, where the team starts a four-game series on Monday evening at 7:05. The Surf's Brian Rodaway (8-5) will oppose the Tornadoes' Junior Guerrero (5-4).
