Kitchener Rangers News Release
Connor Bunnaman scored and added an assist for the Kitchener Rangers in a 3-2 win over the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. Ryan MacInnis also recorded a goal and a helper in the win, while newcomer David Miller picked up a pair of assists and was recognized with first star honours.
The Generals opened the scoring just past the six minute mark of the first period. Rookie winger Kenny Huether notched his second of the season, carrying the puck in alone and snapping a heavy shot past Rangers starter Dawson Carty.
The Generals out-shot the Rangers 8-4 through the opening 20 minutes.
Connor Bunnaman put Kitchener on the board in the second period, recording his sixth goal of the season at the 13:27 mark. Ryan MacInnis fired a shot on goal that was blocked by netminder Ken Appelby, but the rookie fought through traffic to shovel in the rebound. David Miller also picked up an assist on the play, extending his recent point streak to a third game.
The line connected again 87 seconds later, with MacInnis firing a quick wrist shot through Appelby for his 10th of the year. Bunnaman and Miller each collected a helper, giving each player two points on the night.
The Rangers added one more before the intermission, stretching their lead to 3-1. With the teams playing 4-on-4 and 7.3 seconds remaining in the frame, veteran Brandon Robinson hammered the puck by Appleby, extending his goal scoring streak to a third game. Rearguards Dmitrii Sergeev and Frank Hora earned the assists on Robinson's 14th of the season.
Oshawa led shots on goal 9-8 in the second period.
The Generals pulled within one with just over five minutes left to play. Overage defenceman Chris Carlisle swept a shot past Carty to record his sixth of the year, tying his career high. Cole Cassels and team scoring leader Michael Dal Colle each picked up a helper on the play.
Kitchener out-shot Oshawa 14-12 in the third period, but the Generals finished with a 29-26 advantage on the shot clock. Carty made 27 saves to pick up his eighth win of the season.
