Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - Dropping their sixth game in seven days, the Keys lost 5-3 to visiting Lynchburg in front of 4,736 fans at Harry Grove Stadium.
Super-prospect Dylan Bundy, making his fourth start as a Frederick Key and second at Harry Grove Stadium, was charged with the loss after going 3 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs on five hits. Bundy also had five strikeouts to two walks and gave up a homerun. Bundy is now 2-2 with the Keys as his ERA bumps up to 4.34.
The loss puts the Keys thirteen games below .500 for the first time this season and for the first time since July 23rd of 2008.
All the scoring was done in the game's first five innings and Lynchburg never trailed in the game. After getting a 3-1 lead in the third inning, Lynchburg successfully fended off the Keys the rest of the way.
With the score tied at one entering the third inning, the first three batters Bundy faced reached base. After allowing a leadoff walk to Matt Lipka, Nick Ahmed doubled to bring in a run and then Tommy La Stella singled to bring home another, giving Lynchburg a 3-1 advantage.
Although the Keys would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Jeremy Nowak RBI infield single, Lynchburg would chase Bundy out of the game in the fourth when Braeden Schlehuber hit a home run over the left-field wall to give Lynchburg a 4-2 edge. With Bundy's pitch count at 84, he exited the game.
The Keys were unable to come back from there, trading runs in the fifth inning and ultimately losing 5-3.
In the sixth inning, the Keys had the bases loaded and nobody out but could not bring home a run.
The Keys will look to even up the series when RHP Scott Copeland (3-5, 5.34 ERA) takes the mound against RHP Gus Schlosser (7-3, 3.80 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM with live coverage starting at 6:40 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at WTHU.org.
