April 29, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
On Friday night in Myrtle Beach, the Keys scored all five of their runs in the game's first three innings but that proved to be plenty as Frederick defeated the Pelicans, 5-1. RHP Bobby Bundy picked up his second win of the season after allowing just one run over six innings. 1B Tyler Townsend and C Brian Ward each belted two-run homers in the Keys victory. With the win, Frederick improved to 10-10 while Myrtle Beach fell to 13-8.
For the fourth time in five games, the Keys scored in the top of the first inning. CF Kyle Hudson led off the game with a double off RHP Joe Wieland. After a single by LF Trent Mummey advanced Hudson to third, 1B Tyler Townsend brought Hudson home on a groundout to second.
The Pelicans responded with a run of their own in the home-half of the first. LF Ryan Strausborger tripled down the left field line. A groundout by SS Leury Garcia tied the score at one after one.
Frederick reclaimed the lead in the top of the second. With one and 3B Dale Mollenhauer on second, C Brian Ward crushed a Joe Wieland pitch in the left field bleachers. Ward's second home run of the season gave the Keys a 3-1 lead. The following inning, 1B Tyler Townsend hit a two-run blast off Wieland to right field to give the Keys a four-run advantage.
Joe Wieland, who entered the evening with a Carolina League best 0.95 ERA, allowed five runs on eight hits over six innings.
After surrendering a run in the first inning, Bobby Bundy tossed five scoreless innings to close out his outing. Bundy improved to 2-2 on the season after striking out seven and walking none.
RHP Kenny Moreland threw a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh and RHP Dan Klein struck out three in two innings of relief. Over 15.2 innings of relief with Frederick, Klein has allowed just two earned runs (1.15 ERA).
The Keys are 4-1 on their current weeklong road trip and return to action on Saturday evening in Myrtle Beach. RHP Jake Rasner (1-1, 7.98) will start for the Keys while RHP Ryan Kelly (0-1, 4.80) gets the nod for the Pelicans. First pitch from BB&T Coastal Field is set for 7:05 p.m.
