Kinston Blanks the Hillcats

Lynchburg, VA - Despite a seven-inning effort from the starter Matt Crim, allowing just two runs, the Hillcats dropped the series opener against the visiting Kinston Indians.
The Hillcats and Indians combined for two runs on 19 hits, two walks, a hit batter, and one runner reaching on an error Friday night. Both runs scored for Kinston as they shutout the Hillcats en route to a 2-0 win.
The first run for the Indians came in the second inning. Casey Frawley tripled to the right field wall with one out. The next batter, Chase Burnette, doubled home Frawley giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.
Kinston added another run in the fourth when Burnette started a string of three two-out singles. Burnette came around to score on the third single making it 2-0 Kinston.
Despite having eight hits, a walk, a hit batter, and one runner reaching on an error, the Hillcats were unable to plate a run against the Indians Friday. Lynchburg stranded eight runners on base and hit into three double plays. The 'Cats were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, failing to score with the runners at second and third and no outs in the sixth inning.
Lynchburg's left-handed starter Matt Crim (1-2) went seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking one and striking out four but suffered the loss. Kinston's Brett Brach (2-1) earned the win after 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and a walk, while striking out four. Preston Guilmet pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the year.
The Hillcats and Indians continue their series Saturday at 6:05pm. Left-hander Dimasther Delgado (0-3, 6.92) will start for Lynchburg against righty Toru Murata (0-1, 9.00) for Kinston.
It's going to be Autism Awareness Night at City Stadium and there will be a t-shirt giveaway for the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Gates will open at 5:00pm.
