
Bums Hit Six Homers on Their to Win

SAUGET, IL- The Traverse City Beach Bums(30-28) put together a four run ninth inning, earning their sixth consecutive series win in tonight's 9-5 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies(25-36).
After a scoreless 1st, Steve Lohr led off the second with a solo home run, his fifth of the season. Three batters later, Connor Oliver cranked a solo bomb down the right field line, doubling the Traverse City advantage. Gateway got a run back in the third when Paul Russo singled in a run. In the fourth, Alexis Rivera and Luke Lowery hit back-to-back solo homers, pushing the lead to 4-1. In the bottom of the inning, Blake Brown hit a two-run homer and Brent Sakurai hit an RBI single, tying the game at four.
With one out in the sixth inning, Jeff Cardenas slammed a solo home run over the centerfield wall, giving the Grizzlies their first lead of the series. Oliver responded in the top of the seventh, rocketing an opposite field solo homer, his second home run of the game and fifth of the season, tying things up at five.
Connor Oliver led off the ninth inning for the Bums with his third hit of the game, this time, a single. Kendall Patrick walked then Ryan Kemp reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out. Orlando Rivera gave Traverse City the lead on a sacrifice fly then after Patrick scored on a wild pitch, Isaac Benard ripped a two-run homer for some important insurance runs.
Kenneth Knudsen went four innings of relief to pick up his fifth win against no losses, He allowed one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three. Kevin Simmons gets the loss in two-thirds of an inning of work. He allowed four runs, three earned, on two hits and a walk to fall to 0-2.
On Sunday night, the Beach Bums and Gateway Grizzlies will finish off this weekend's three game set and season series, with Traverse City looking for the sweep. Starting on the mound for Gateway is Taso Stathopoulos while Matt Murphy starts for the Beach Bums.
