Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Traverse City Beach Bums were defeated by the Washington Wild Things in the rubber game of a series on Saturday night, falling 10-3 at CONSOL Energy Park.
The Beach Bums were able to open the scoring for the first time in the series by plating a run in the top of the fourth. Sean Hoorelbeke reached with a two-out infield single and scored when Mike Epping connected on an opposite-field double to left. Epping was thrown out attempting to stretch it to a triple.
The lead was short lived as Washington was able to take over in the bottom of the inning. Ernie Banks led off with a single and was along for the ride as Jacob Dempsey homered off the videoboard in rightfield for his 16th of the season. Washington scored four more runs in the fifth inning to open a 6-1 lead. Phil Laurent and Ernie Banks each drove in runs before Jacob Dempsey connected on his second longball of the game.
Brett Bostelman threw just five innings in the contest to take the loss, his fourth of the season. He surrendered six runs on eight hits. Washington padded the lead by touching Jared Locke for a pair of two-out runs in the sixth.
Mike Epping hit a two-run homer off Washington starter Zach Groh in the seventh inning, his second in as many nights, to pull the Beach Bums within 8-3. Sean Hoorelbeke was along for the ride after walking. Groh pitched seven innings to pick up the win. Washington added runs in the seventh and eighth to account for the difference.
Mike Epping drove in all three runs for the Beach Bums and was 2-for-3 at the plate with a homer and a double. Traverse City managed six hits in the contest.
Traverse City travels to Florence tomorrow night for the first road meeting of the season with the Freedom. RHP David Dinelli (1-2, 4.86) will take the ball against RHP Preston Vancil (1-0, 0.00). First pitch is slated for 6:05pm and the contest can be heard live on The Fox FM.
