Gateway Grizzlies News Release

EVANSVILLE, IND.- The Evansville Otters scored three times in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night to score a come-from-behind 5-4 over the Gateway Grizzlies and avoid the three-game sweep. The loss snaps the Grizzlies winning streak at three games.

Otters' left fielder Greg Alexander capped the comeback with a two-run double with one out in the ninth. Eric Ridener (0-1) suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Ridener came on with two on and two outs in the eighth and surrendered an RBI double to pinch-hitting Cameron Satterwhite. The eighth-inning run drew the Otters (17-40) within two. Ridener surrendered four hits in the ninth.

The Grizzlies (25-31) used three solo home runs to take a 3-1 lead into the eighth inning. Stephen Holdren, Jareck West and Charlie Lisk all hit long balls for the Grizzlies. West led off the eighth inning, and was hit by a pitch. West was sacrificed to second then stole third. He scored on a groundout by Holdren to make it 4-1 Grizzlies.

Holdren was the only Grizzlie with more than a hit. He was 2-4 with the two RBIs. West was 1-2 and scored twice. Lisk was 1-3.

The Grizzlies got a quality start from Nate Melek. Melek allowed a single run on three hits over six innings. He struck out six.

Gateway returns home to begin a three-game series against Southern Illinois at GCS Ballpark. First pitch Sunday is 3:05 pm.
