Washington Dumps Coal into Traverse City's Christmas Stockings

Washington, PA - Fans were treated to Christmas in July at CONSOL Energy Park Saturday night. In addition to getting snow globes, eating Christmas cookies and listening to Christmas music, the Washington fans enjoyed a holiday victory. Washington (28-29) beat the Traverse City Beach Bums by a score of 10-3. The victory moves Washington to third place in the East Division of the Frontier League.

A pitching duel kept the game scoreless until the fourth inning when Traverse City's Mike Epping drove in Sean Hoorelbeke. Their lead was brief, however. Jacob Dempsey drove in Ernie Banks in the bottom of the inning when he smacked a shot over the right field video board to give the Wild Things a one run lead.

Christmas kept on giving to Washington in the fifth when they added four runs, including another Dempsey two run homer.

Laurent smacked a shot into centerfield for his third triple of the year in the sixth, plating Brett Grandstrand.

Epping and Hoorelbeke combined to score again in the seventh inning when Epping slammed a bomb over the right field wall.

Zach Groh (3-3) earned the victory for Washington allowing three (earned) runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings of work. Keith Meyer and Aaron Guinn each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Wild Things host the Midwest Sliders for a three game set at CONSOL Energy Park from Sunday thought Tuesday. Game tickets are available at the box office. First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 6:35. Air time on WJPA 95.3 F.M. is 6:25.
