Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - Charlotte plated eight runs in the seventh inning blowing the game wide open as the Knights won a lopsided one over the Bulls, 12-7 on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Bulls now lead the division by three games following Gwinnett's win at Norfolk.

Charlotte held a slim, 4-3 lead heading into the seventh inning when the wheels came off for the Durham Bullpen. Gookie Dawkins led off the inning with his 11th home run of the season off of Bulls' reliever Lance Cormier. After Jared Price walked and Justin Greene doubled, Eduardo Escobar singled scoring Price to make it 6-3. Mike Ekstrom was called on to replace Cormier, then promptly got Lastings Milledge to fly out for the first out of the inning. However, he then walked Dayan Viciedo and Jim Gallagher singled to score Greene. Ekstrom then gave up a bases-loaded walk to Jordan Danks scoring Escobar and Andrew Garcia followed with a grand slam to make it 12-3.

The Bulls put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth inning scoring four runs, two on a home run by Robinson Chirinos and another pair on a bases-loaded double by Brandon Guyer, but Dan Johnson grounded out with runners on second and third to end the game. It was the third straight loss for the Bulls, all at home.

RHP Brian Baker (7-8) took the loss, pitching four and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on three hits and two walks. RHP Duente Heath (3-7) got the win pitching five and two-thirds innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three.

The Bulls and Knights meet again on Friday night at 7:05 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com .
