G League Windy City Bulls

Bulls Notch First Win over Expansion Skyhawks, 117-104

December 17, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Windy City Bulls News Release

The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the official G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, grabbed their fifth road win this season with a 117-104 victory over the expansion College Park Skyhawks Tuesday night.

It was the Windy City's first time visiting College Park, the new official G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks.

The two teams mirrored each other's style of play in the first half getting out in the open floor, pushing tempo, shooting threes, and banging down low when needed. Both Windy City and College Park traded shots from beyond the arc, with the Bulls connecting on .391 from the outside, and the Skyhawks .389 on the way to seven lead changes between the teams in the first half.

Controlling the paint in the early going for Windy City was Chicago Bulls Assignment player Cristiano Felicio, on rehab assignment coming off a wrist injury that has prevented him from logging any playing time yet this season.

Felicio looked ready to play from the outset, getting out on the break, fighting for rebounds and tallying 15 points, five rebounds and a blocked shot on 5-for-7 shooting in the first half.

Milton Doyle did a little bit of everything for the Bulls in the first 24 minutes (ten points, six assists, four rebounds) to lead an 8-0 run at the end of the first quarter. Windy City continued that run into the second frame with a pair of threes by Max Strus, building what would have been a double-digit lead going into halftime. But a four-point play top-of-the-key three pointer in the closing seconds by Atlanta Hawks Two-Way Player Brandon Goodwin cut the lead to 58-52 at the break. Out of Florida Gulf Coast, Goodwin led the Skyhawks at half with 11 points, five assists, and four steals.

Windy City kept up the strong outside shooting in the second half, moving the ball to the open shooters to knock down five threes as a team in the third quarter and extend the lead to 85-74 leading into the fourth. The Bulls shared the ball well all night overall, assisting on 25-of-41 made baskets.

Hustle plays and offensive rebounds by Strus and Felicio held off any Skyhawk rally and two clutch threes by Strus in the final minutes of the game sealed the win for Windy City.

Despite struggling from the outside, Strus fought through to finish the game leading all scorers with 31, to go along with 13 rebounds and two steals.

Felicio was aggressive in his first game off injury, ending the night with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks on 7-for-10 shooting in 35 minutes. Doyle lead all players in assists with 12.

Leading the way for the Skyhawks were Goodwin with 20 points and seven assists, and Cat Barber out of N.C. State with 22 points.

Windy City (7-7) will fly to Las Vegas next to face the Texas Legends on Thursday in the MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase, which runs from December 19-22. More information about the event, in addition to the broadcast schedule can be found at https://gleague.nba.com/.
