Westchester Knicks News Release
CANTON, OH - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, were unable to carry its first half momentum into the third and fourth quarters and ultimately fell 104-90 to the Canton Charge Tuesday evening and Canton Memorial Civic Center.
After trailing by as many as 10 points in the first and 11 in the second quarter, the Knicks combatted with a slight one-point advantage 49-48 at halftime. New York Knicks assignee Ignas Brazdeikis did a bit of everything in the first 24 minutes, scoring 21 points on 60-percent shooting, draining a pair of triples, hauling five boards, dishing a pair of assists and tabbing a steal. As a team, the Knicks saw 52.4-percent of their shots fall.
In the third quarter, following a 27.3-percent shooting performance in the previous quarter, Canton went 45-percent from the field. Conversely, the Knicks were held to a 38.9-percent clip. Both clubs credited a five-point lead, endured five lead changes and one tie but it was Canton that would enter the fourth quarter up three, 73-70.
Empty scoring pockets impeded the Knicks' effort in the final period. Westchester experienced two offensive droughts, one covering four minutes and the other over three minutes ending with 3:12 remaining, 97-80. Missed shot opportunities and ill-advised turnovers ultimately summed up the Knicks final minutes with Canton refusing to let up and taking the game considerably.
Brazdeikis ended with 21 points on 47.1-percent. Zak Irvin posted 12 points and eight rebounds. The backcourt tandem of Two-Way player Kadeem Allen and Lamar Peters each contributed five dimes.
For the Charge, Malik Newman led a class of seven players in double-figures with 18 points on 40-percent. Dean Wade (14 PTS, 10 REBS) and Marques Bolden (11 PTS, 11 REBS) each added a double-double.
The 2019 MGM Resorts NBA G League Winter Showcase is next on the horizon for the Knicks and they face the Greensboro Swarm, Friday, December 20 at 5:30 PM ET.
