CANTON, OH - A 31-point fourth quarter helped deliver a 104-90 victory for the Canton Charge (10-5), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, over the Westchester Knicks (5-9) on Tuesday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.
Up by three at the start of the fourth, Malik Newman netted the first six points for the Charge in the quarter, helping to ignite Canton on a 10-0 run that included back-to-back buckets from J.P. Macura to bring the lead back to double digits with 7:23 left in the game. The Charge kept the pressure, extending the lead to as much as 19 to hold on for the win.
The Charge came out strong to start the game, extending the lead to as much as eight after a free throw from Marques Bolden. Sparked by a layup from Sir'Dominic Pointer, Canton tallied seven unanswered points to hold onto a six-point lead at the end of the first.
Alex Robinson converted on the and-one to open the second and extend Canton's lead to double digits. After a scoreless two minutes, Bolden finally broke the stalemate to increase the deficit to 11. The Knicks rallied back with an 8-2 run giving them their first lead of the night at the 1:43 mark of the second. Both teams traded buckets with Westchester taking a one-point advantage into the break.
The Knicks increased the lead to five over the first three minutes of the third, but a Newman three sparked the Charge on a 13-5 run over four minutes to take a 66-63 edge, an advantage that Canton would take into the final quarter.
Canton's offense delivered a solid all-around performance with seven players tallying over 10 points for the second consecutive game. Newman led the team with 18 points and three assists in 35 minutes of action. Sheldon Mac came off the bench with 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals in 29 minutes of play. Bolden notched the first double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Ignas Brazdeikis, who was on assignment from the New York Knicks, had a game-high 21 points in 31 minutes of action. Two-way player Zak Irvin followed with 12 points and eight boards in 26 minutes of action. Rookie Tyler Hall recorded nine points, two rebounds, and one block in 19 minutes of action.
