The SeaWolves could not hold a late lead on Friday night at First Energy Stadium as they dropped the series opener to the Reading Fightin Phils 4-3 in 12 innings.

Zach Collier followed with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Saupold worked out of the jam and would go on to fire five shutout innings after the second.
Phils starter Adam Loewen was equally as impressive allowing one hit over the first six innings of the game. Erie tied the game in the seventh. Jamie Johnson led off with his second walk of the game. Dixon Machado laid down a sacrifice bunt and on a Loewen error, Machado reached and Johnson moved to third. Devon Travis hit into a fielder's choice, plating Johnson, tying the game.
