New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Brad Davis hit a three-run homer, and the New Orleans Zephyrs beat the Oklahoma City RedHawks 5-3 on Monday afternoon, earning a split of the four-game series with the division leaders.

Davis had three hits, including the three-run blast in the fifth inning against RedHawks starter Tommy Hunter (1-2), his second home run of the season.

Kevin Mattison and Hunter Mense also had two hits apiece for the Z's.

Five Zephyrs pitchers combined to limit Oklahoma City to four hits, though the Z's did walk seven batters. The RedHawks went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 baserunners.

Starter Burke Badenhop, making his first start with the Zephyrs since last April, did not allow a hit over two innings, striking out four and walking three.

Adalberto Mendez (2-0) came on in the third and worked three scoreless innings to pick up the win for the second consecutive appearance.

Todd Doolittle gave up one run in two innings, the run scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh, and Kasey Olenberger followed with a perfect eighth inning.

Scott Strickland, activated from the disabled list earlier in the day, walked two and yielded a run in the ninth, but stranded the potential tying run on base to convert his fourth save.

The Zephyrs improved their all-time record on Memorial Day to 10-5.

New Orleans welcomes to Omaha Royals into Zephyr Field on Tuesday night, when left-hander Sean West makes his Zephyrs debut, facing right-hander Gaby Hernandez. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
