Statia Placed On Disabled List, Nieves Promoted To Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (May 31, 2010) - The Salt Lake Bees announced today that the club has placed infielder Hainley Statia on the Disabled List with a right elbow strain. To replace Statia on the Bees active roster, infielder Abel Nieves has been promoted to Salt Lake from Double-A Arkansas.

Statia, 24, has appeared in 30 games for the Bees in 2010, hitting .260 with four doubles, two triples and 14 RBI. He has also appeared in four games for Double-A Arkansas this season, hitting .417 with one double and two RBI. A native of Curacao, Netherlands, Statia was originally selected by the Angels in the ninth round of the 2004 draft.

Nieves, 24, has appeared in 35 games for the Travelers in 2010, hitting .210 with two doubles and seven RBI. He split the 2009 season between Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake. He finished the season with a .270 batting average with nine doubles, three triples and 28 RBI. The Maracay, Venezuela native was originally selected by the Angels in the 50th round of the 2005 draft.
