The Volcanoes bullpen allowed six runs Wednesday night as Salem-Keizer fell to the Tri-City Dust Devils 9-7 at Volcanoes Stadium.

Salem-Keizer had the lead following a fifth-inning Jose Vizcaino Jr. home run, but the Dust Devils tagged reliever Armando Paniagua (1-2, 8.10 ERA) for five runs in the sixth to blow the game open.

The Dust Devils roughed up Volcanoes starter Nick Gonzalez early in the contest. Peter Van Gansen laced a one-out single in the first before Jose Carlos Urena blasted a two-run home run, putting Tri-City out in front. Austin Allen then singled to lead off the second and later scored when Kodie Tidwell doubled to right, extending the Dust Devils' advantage to 3-0. Gonzalez was taxed for 59 pitches over the game's first two frames.

Salem-Keizer came storming back the following half inning, all with two outs. With C.J. Hinojosa standing at first and two outs in the frame, Fernando Pujadas and John Riley both singled to load the bases for Shilo McCall. The Dust Devils appeared to escape the threat when McCall rolled a groundball on the infield, but Tidwell made an errant throw to first that allowed McCall to reach and two runs to score. Ronnie Jebavy then struck a triple to deep center, scoring two more and pushing the Volcanoes in front, 4-3.

Tri-City nearly tied things up in the third, but right fielder Steven Duggar had different plans. With Ty France at second and two outs in the inning, Allen punched a single into right, seemingly deep enough to score France as he sprinted around third. Duggar came up and fired a bullet to nab France at home, however, ending the inning with the lead intact.

The two teams exchanged single runs in the fifth - including a solo home run by Vizcaino Jr. - but Tri-City pulled ahead with a five-run sixth inning. The Dust Devils had only two hits in the inning but sent nine men to the plate - the key moment coming when McCall dropped a fly ball with two outs in the frame. The miscue led to three more runs coming across the plate, pushing the Tri-City lead to 9-5.

Chris Shaw belted a solo home run in the ninth, but that would be all as the Dust Devils' bullpen held on to secure the victory. Trevor Megill recorded the final six outs for his first save.

Walker Lockett (2-0, 2.42 ERA) picked up the win for Tri-City.

Player of the Game: Jose Vizcaino Jr. had the best game of his professional career, going 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run.

Up Next: The Volcanoes head north to begin a five-game series at Vancouver tomorrow before returning home on July 15. Logan Webb (2-1, 5.21 ERA) will start for Salem-Keizer. The broadcast will be available on volcanoesbaseball.com or through the TuneIn Radio app. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
