Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - After being held to one hit in the first five innings, the Eugene Emeralds tallied eight runs in the sixth and won their fourth straight game, 8-4, over Vancouver on Tuesday night at PK Park.

Eugene (13-8) already has its third four-game winning streak of the season, despite playing just 21 games. After starting the season 1-5, the Emeralds have won 12 of their last 15 outings.

Eugene starter Oscar De La Cruz (2-1) picked up the win after surrendering just one run on two hits in six innings with six strikeouts. De La Cruz has allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits over his last 18 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts. Donnie Dewees went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored to lead Eugene at the plate.

Vancouver struck first with a RBI groundout in the top of the third. Eugene went scoreless for the first five innings but broke out in a big way in the sixth. After Dewees doubled to start the game, the Emeralds did not get another hit until Dewees started the sixth inning with a single. That play would jump start an eight-run inning for the Emeralds.

Dewees moved to second on an error and came around to score on a double to right by Frandy De La Rosa. Ian Happ singled to right to bring home De La Rosa before Happ scored on a RBI single by Blake Headley. On a fielder's choice grounder, Headley broke up the play with a hard slide into second which loaded the bases for Ian Rice. Rice drew a walk to plate the fourth run of the inning. Ho-young Son lofted a sacrifice fly to center to score the fifth run of the frame. That brought Dewees back up to the plate and the second-rounder doubled to right. His second hit of the inning scored a pair. De La Rosa followed with another double, his second of the inning, to score the final two runs of the frame.

Vancouver scored three runs in the eighth but it wasn't enough to come back against the Ems.

Notes: Frandy De La Rosa, a switch hitter, doubled twice in the sixth inning, once from the right side of the plate and once from the left side...There were six straight strikeouts in the game between the bottom of the first and the top of the second. ..All of the Ems' strikeouts in the first were swinging while all of the Canadians' strikeouts in the second were looking...Seven different Ems players scored a run in the game.

Up Next: The Emeralds hit the road for a five-game series at Tri-City starting tomorrow at 7:15 PM. Catch each game on the radio via TuneIn, online or on 95.3 The Score.
