Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers went into Tuesday night's game looking to make ground on division leader Alexandria, but failed to, losing to the Willmar Stingers 8-5 in the middle game of the series. The Honkers saw a 5-2 lead evaporate, and fell to 13-13 in the second half, 5.5 games behind Alexandria.
The Honkers would come back from a 2-0 deficit after a strong first inning for the Stingers. Rochester would score two in the third off a homerun by Honker slugger Johnny Coy (RsJr, Wichita State). They would add one more in the fourth inning after another homerun, this one a solo shot by Ryan Hambright (So, Oregon) to put the Honkers up 3-2. A two run inning in the sixth would be the last the Honkers would get, falling to a late rally by the Stingers.
Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) would make his second start since representing the Honkers in the All-Star game. Dolsky would pitch six innings allowing two runs on four hits while fanning five Stingers. Dolsky would leave the game with the Honkers up 3-2 but get a no-decision when the Stingers took the lead in the seventh inning after a five run outburst.
The Honkers would get multiple hits from four batters in the game, getting a dozen hits total during the game. Eight of the nine Honker batters had a hit in the game, out hitting the Stingers by two.
The two teams will play the rubber match tomorrow at 7:05 PM to decide the series winner in the final game of the season versus the Stingers and Honkers. Rochester will then have a series against division leader Alexandria, before five games against Brainerd and two against Duluth to cap the regular season off.
