Mankato Pulls Off 10-6 Comeback Victory

(Brainerd Lakes Area) - A Matt Reida home run in the Top of the 8th inning completed the Mankato MoonDogs comeback Tuesday night at Stewart C. Mills Field as they defeated the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers 10-6.
The MoonDogs were once down 5-0 in the game after committing four errors, all in the Bottom of the 2nd inning. Tommy Reyes came up with a two-run single in the inning, driving home the first two Lunker runs of the game. They would add three more in the inning. Reida committed two errors for the MoonDogs in the inning. The Lunkers would add one more in the Top of the 3rd. Mankato scored two runs in the Top of the 2nd and added two in the sixth with a Steve Nyisztor two-run triple. Shaun Cooper picked up his second RBI of the game when he reached on a fielder's choice in the 7th, making it 6-5 Lunkers. That set the stage for Reida in the 8th.
In the 9th, the MoonDogs added two insurance runs off of Ray Black.
Joe Willman made his final start for the Lunkers this evening. Willman gave up five runs in six-plus innings of work, striking out three.
Tyler Harris came on in relief and gave up the home run to Reida in the 8th. Harris takes his second loss of the season.
Mankato's starter Sam Selman went four innings, giving up six runs, with only one of them earned. The win goes to Steven Rice, his second of the season for the MoonDogs. Patrick Goelz came in during the Bottom of the 8th and finished off the 9th for his sixth save.
The MoonDogs win their sixth game in a row as they move to (15-10) on the second half of play. The Lunkers fall to (10-18).
The Lunkers and MoonDogs finish off the three-game series Wednesday night at Mills Field. First pitch is set for 7:05. John McLeod will get the start for the Lunkers with Blake Schwartz going for the MoonDogs.
